From 16 September to 30 December on the 4th floor of the museum, located at 32 Brīvības bulvāris, new exhibition is on display.
Most people know what a computer is, but only a few of us can explain how it works. Similarly, the simple question “How does a museum work?” is more complicated than it seems. The expositions accessible to public serve informative, educational and entertaining purposes, however that is only one part of the museum. What is the other part that remains hidden to a wider public? It certainly is not a dusty storage of old things and bored employees. Our collections attract researchers and creative personalities, the museum contributes to science, brings to attention certain topics in the society and preserves cultural memory – the ability to remember and understand more than the direct experience of our generation. For this to happen, the creation of museum collections has to go hand in hand with careful preservation, restoration, research and communication.

The exhibition is opened while celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Riga Latvian Society Science Commission (established in 1869, later it became the founder of the Latvian Museum) – and the 100th anniversary since the National History Museum of Latvia became a state museum.
